New GM in Vegas Golden Knights

2019-12-19
New GM in Vegas Golden Knights

Vegas fans have been living in uncertainty lately about who should lead the team after the team's latest general manager resigned at short notice. When it is now clear that a Swedish 34 year old is taking over, the question marks are even more. The owner and the newly appointed general manager are now sitting at a packed press conference to announce the news and form some clarity on what will happen to the team.

- Tomas, how does it feel to be the new GM for the Vegas Gold Knights?
"I'm excited to have this opportunity to lead a team at the highest level. I know it will take some extra time to adapt to the American lifestyle and get to know all the new people, but I look forward to the challenge."

- What previous experiences do you have?
"I have led high-level teams in Sweden, but this will be the first time outside my home country."

-How do you see the team you have now taken over?
"I have taken over a team that is in the process of redevelopment in the long term. I will continue that process. But at the same time we are in the middle of a race for one of the playoffspots, which is the goal to reach in the short term. But there are big gaps in the team that need to be filled in order for us to challenge."

-Can we expect to see changes in the team?
"I will sit down and evaluate the team, but I expect to be out in the transfer market soon to bring in some important puzzle pieces to our team. I will mainly focus on bringing in young and developing players. We also need look at the economic aspects that are not entirely satisfactory right now."

- Last and perhaps the most important question, will Ovechkin continue to be part of the team?
"I understand that it is an important player for our fans and I intend to let it continue to be so, unless we get an exchange that will be crucial for our future."
