Sabres vs Bruins

The Sabres finished the season with 101 points, good for 3rd in the Atlantic division.  In the first round of the playoffs, they will go against their division rival, the Boston Bruins, who secured home ice advantage by playing well during the last stretch of the regular season.

It is no secret that there is no love between the two teams.  The Bruins will look to avenge the loss to the Sabres in seven games in the first round last year.  In a well fought series, neither team had been able to take more than a one game lead, with the Sabres winning game 7 in Boston by a score of 3-2.

In the season series, both teams have won 2 games.  The Bruins took the first two games and the Sabres games three and four.  During the season, the Bruins finished 25th on the power play and 19th on the penalty kill while the Sabres finished 15th and 6th respectively.  The special teams will surely be very important for both teams if they want to advance to the next round.

The Bruins have plenty of firepower up front with the likes of Toews, Giroux, Seguin, Kessel, Parise and Marchand but only Kessel, Toews and Seguin have put up good numbers during the regular season.  If the Bruins want to win this series, the other top forwards will need to chip in.  The major question marks for the Bruins are on defense and in goal.  Beauchemin, who has been the Bruins best dman during the year offensively, has finished with only 21 points, but does it really matter when your team has been built offense-heavy?  While not having great rates, Bobrovsky has put up decent numbers, finishing with 25 wins, a GAA of 2.70 and a Sv% of .909, but will he be able to stop the Sabres offense for at least four games?

The Sabres have made moves to be competitive this year, so even if they only got four wins in their last ten games, management and the fans expect a long playoff run.  GM Blanchard has built this team to have depth throughout the lineup in the hopes that it will make a difference in the crazy competitive Eastern conference.  Four Buffalo players finished up the season with more than 35 goals while Doughty has been a force on defense with 43 points.  Sekera has also been a very important piece to the Sabres success with his 10 goals.  In goal, Luongo finished the season with 37 wins, a 2.62 GAA and a .907 Sv% which were a bit disappointing considering the team in front of him.

With two powerhouses like the Bruins and the Sabres going against each other, I believe that the deciding factor in this series will be goaltending.  Who between Bobrovsky and Luongo will win it?

Who said anything about Bobrovsky. It may be split between him and Enroth! hahahahahahaha They both equally suck this year.

Jeremy H Series is now 2-2. Come on Sabres! It was not a good idea to give up EIGHT power plays to the Bruins in game 4.
