I agree, certain ratings are more important then the OV of the player, and when it comes to trades ppl only look at the OV and place the value on that, for an example i player can only have a high EX and LD and still have a higher OV. I value players on certain attribut not the OV so i agree 100% with this article.....good read for sure

Marc-Andre Billette What is your thoughts on the rankings I put on each type of role player and their attribute ranks

Jacob Ranson Im going to say fairly accurate and in the same view as how i try to build my teams. As you can tell over the years ive had this team ive never went after the highest OV players, i try to peice together a team built for each line and similar to each other

Marc-Andre Billette agreed, do you feel that you've ever been blinded by the OV rating when you started in your first league.

Jeremy H Great article Matt! For my top 6, I value SK, PH, PA and SC and try to find chemistry between two guys. If I can, I try to fit a player with some CK. For my bottom 6, I value DF first, then CK and EX. For my defsense, I try to find a mix of PA/DF...

Jeremy H ...to fill my PP and PK units. Goalies are a mystery for me even after all those years haha. I do not pay too much attention to the OV rate as well but I find it nice to just sort out my players on the deptch chart. Without it, it would be a mess...

Jacob Ranson absolutely, was all i looked at when i first start SIM leagues, but as i learned thats not the case. But thats all what new guys look at and how they value there players solely on OV.

Marc-Andre Billette Steve: I did the same thing man especially harder when we used to have Potential as a stat and I messed up many deals because of that and have learned a lot over 9 years in the league.

Jacob Ranson ohhh right the PO rating lol, i myself screwed up with that too. Im glad that one is gone for sure...i wish the OV would go too

Marc-Andre Billette Paul, I agree man. I try to find chemistry between 2 players on my top 2 lines which is normally a winger and a center and put a checker with them to round out the line. I am still unsure on the balance between regular minute pairings....

Marc-Andre Billette but I use the formula in the article to determine PP, 4/4, PK pairings. Goalies are probably the hardest stats to figure out, I am sure the stats I have highlight may be the best way to rank a goalie.

Marc-Andre Billette I originally didn't understand the PO attribute and made many mistakes during the original League draft to pick our teams and the first few years of trades.

Jeremy H The only thing about chemistry though, you might find great chemistry during the regular season but when we switch to the playoffs, it could be another story haha. It happened to me last season.

Marc-Andre Billette Paul, I actually never thought about the chemistry going away between Preseason, Regular season, and Playoffs

Dan Hubacher I feel that the OV rating is way over rated as there are a lot of things that go into it. Newbies miss use it and veterans exploit it.

Marc-Andre Billette Dan, I completely agree thats why i wanted to shed some light on this topic to help everyone out and was that a pun (OV Rating = Overrated) lol.

Dan Hubacher I loved the article, think most GM's here are veteran enough but its something that should be shared across leagues.

Marc-Andre Billette Dan, What do you feel of the rankings I put in for each type of role?

Dan Hubacher Overall i like it, going one step further.. on forwards i feel its always important to note when you want a passer to set up your scorer its key to make sure the pa rating is higher than his sc

Marc-Andre Billette Dan, Good point that way the AI sees him as wanting to Pass first and Shoot Second. Can't disagree with that logic.

Dan Hubacher for example in another league had OV and Stamkos and the line sucked really need to not have the same type all over a line

Mike Edwards Does anyone actually look at PS when setting up your Shootout lineup? Or just pick the best scorers and go with it.

6 years  0 teams Like this
Jacob Ranson i def look at PS for my shootout lineup

Dan Hubacher I def look, sure 3/5 times youre highest sc will also be the highest ps but there are also cases like Marner where my goalie has a better ps rating

Marc-Andre Billette I do as well, I even put them in if it's a defensemen that has a High PS rating.
