The Playoff Race is On!

2021-04-27
MONTREAL, QC -- The Canadiens have raced to the top of the Atlantic Division in the SimNet Hockey League, but they aren't the only team that has made some noise in recent weeks in the standings. While the Canadiens maintain a lead in the standings as the Atlantic and Eastern Conference's best team, the Nashville Predators continue to climb in the Central Division and the Western Conference. The Predators and the St. Louis Blues continue to be neck and neck down the stretch with the Predators having two games in hand. Many teams made moves at the trade deadline last weekend setting up for a great run towards the playoffs.

Media recently caught up with Canadien's GM Mike Cooley from his home in sunny Florida and here's his response to his team's recent success, "While we are very pleased with our team's run in the past couple of months, we felt like we needed to add some depth down the middle in preparation for the playoffs. We brought in Ryan Getzlaf and even added a little scoring touch with the addition of Rickard Rakell. We didn't want to make too many moves and disrupt our recent success."

Success. That is what each team ahead of the 2021 playoffs is searching for. For some, that success may come fairly easy and others may have to work a little harder. Some teams will continue to shuffle around their lines to find the best chemistry amongst the players, while other teams may have it figured out already. Nonetheless, each team will give it their best down the stretch to push for the 2021 playoffs, then the real fun begins. Sixteen teams will battle with only one team ultimately winning 16 games over 4 rounds in order to secure Lord Stanley.

Here's a look at the current league standings as of 4/27/2021

When further asked about his team's success and how they seem to fair going forward, Hab's GM Cooley replied, "The quest for the Cup began in the offseason putting the foundation for this season's roster in place, but now the real leg work comes into play. We have to continue to push, try to build momentum and sustain it into the playoffs."

Tonight the Canadien's will battle the Predators in what could potentially be a Stanley Cup Finals Preview as two of the league's best go head-to-head. "The Preds have had some great success and earned it by battling to win games recently. Kudos to GM Hubacher and the team he has assembled in Nashville. Great to see a guy like David Rittich leading the way between the pipes in Nashville. We were sad to see him go here in Montreal, but glad he is having the success he is with the Preds," commented Cooley.

With only about 12-14 games left for most teams around the league, it'll be an all out race for the playoffs. Then, a grueling four round quest for the cup with one team leaving it all out on the ice trying to win 16 games to become the league's 2021 Stanley Cup Champion. Buckle up!

Dan Hubacher

I believe our trade sent both of us to the top of the standings. I remember you being mid standings when it occurred
