Chara named as Wings Captain

The Detroit Red Wings Hockey Club announced today that defenceman Zdeno Chara has been named team captain. 

“Zdeno is a player who leads by example both on and off the ice,” said Red Wings Head Coach Guy Boucher.  “He is a skilled player with a lot of experience and leadership and he won a Stanley Cup.  He is well respected among his teammates and we feel he deserves this opportunity and responsibility.”
 
Chara, who has served as the Captain of the NY Islanders last year, will become the first official captain in nhl-sim Red Wings history as we were using a rotating system in our first season in the league. 

“I’m honored to be named Red Wings captain,” said Chara. “ I feel a great sense of pride wearing this sweater and being a part of this organization.  I am looking forward to this added responsibility.”
