UFA (Transactions/unrestricted free agents) and RFA (Transactions/ Restricted Free Agents)players (scroll to the bottom to see goaltenders).
When you go check UFA and RFA, its possible certain players already got an offer, click the second tab (UFAs/RFAs with Offers) 24 hours after the first offer made to a player, you won't be allowed to make an offer so act fast, the player will select the best 3 offers and move to the deciding section (3rd tab) for another 24 hours. If you are among the 3 finalists, you can still edit your offer. Portal will select between offers, 60% for the best offer, 30% for the second one and 10% for the least best offer.

The team offering the compensation must have their picks available prior for the deal to go through (in the next two years). If the team making the offer has more draft picks than needed for the compensation, the team making the offer will decide what picks will be sent to the other team. The team owning the players rights will have up to 2 days to match the offer or they can choose to receive the compensation. If you make an offer to a RFA, win the bid but do not have the picks needed as a compensation, you lose the bid and lose your 1st round pick (3rd season from now). So for example if you bid with season 9 and 10 picks, you lose S11 1st round pick.
Remember, all contracts 1.5$ mil + per season, players can't be sent to the minors, NHL only.

You make sure to have enough players for each positions, including at least 3 goaltenders.
