Vegas going bust

Despite off season moves to essentially assemble what looks like an All-Star squad, the Vegas Golden Knights are not performing up to expectations and GM Copeland is not happy about it.

Sporting a barely above .500 record, the team remains only in the hunt due to the competitive nature of the Pacific Division as they sit 1 point behind the leader. When looking at the team it appears as though their penalty kill and 5 on 5 play are what's doing the team in.

Strong play by the likes of Evgeni Malkin (29 points in 16 games), the off season acquired William Karlsson (23pts in 16), and Reilly Smith (19 in 16) are getting it done in the offensive zone. However collectively they are a combined -18. 

What does appear to be of concern is the play of perrenial Maurice Richard trophy winner Alexander Ovechkin who has only lit the lamp 6 times this season, and stud defencemen Erik Karlsson (1 goal) and Ryan Suter (2 assists). 

GM Copeland recently said that there is no rhyme or reason to this team. Goaltender Ben Bishop has given up alot of goals on alot of shots, but even the best goalies won't put up good numbers unless they get the defensive support they need. And with that being said, the teams best defensive players aren't playing defensive.

So where to go from here? GM Copeland indicates that unless they can turn a corner and start playing with consistency and put a winning streak together someone will be made an example of. Is a complete blow up warranted? No. But something will have to be done to alter the teams trajectory. This season was about putting their stamp on the league and serving notice that they are a powerhouse team, but apparently no one told the players it takes effort to do so!!!!
