Montreal, QC -- It's been an interesting start to the 2017 hockey season for GM Mike Cooley. As he was preparing his team for training camp and the 2017 Sim Net 1 preseason schedule, he turned his focus to deadly Hurricane Irma. Forced to put his other plans on hold, Cooley began preparations for his home and family in Tampa, FL. Cooley released this statement on Monday, "After a stressful week and not knowing at the time if I'd even have a home to come back too, I'm glad it's over and I can get back to the rest of my life and hockey."

The Canadiens recently started training camp and some names have shined. "Some of the guys we've noticed in camp are Mikko Ratanen, Craig Smith and Jacob Chychrun just to name a few. Really excited for all these guys...especially the younger guys trying to break into the league," stated Cooley.Not playing all of their regular starters the first few games...the Canadiens dropped Game 1 of the preaseason 6-4 to the Red Wings and Game 2 of the preseason to the Lightning 5-1. "I would expect to start seeing the starters and veterans more and more as we get a little closer to the regular season," added head coach Barry Trotz.

In his first action of the preseason, young star goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy dominated the Lightning on Friday night with a 5-1 win in Montreal. After a day off Saturday, the team dropped their matchup against the Sens on Sunday 4-2 and took a close, 3-2 victory in Toronto against the Leafs last night.
