Canadiens Staff Departs for Chicago

Montreal, QC – GM Mike Cooley and his Canadiens staff departed Montreal-Pierre Elliot Trudeau Intl Airport earlier today with one thing in mind, the future of the team. Cooley and his management staff headed to Chicago today hoping to land some talented prospects to help the team’s future.

“There is some good talent in this year’s draft. Talent that is scattered throughout all five rounds, it’s just a matter of doing your homework and scouting for the right ones. Our staff has been working endless hours the last several weeks in preparation for the upcoming draft. We’re looking forward to it and can’t wait to get things started on Monday,” stated Cooley.

When asked about the team’s draft plans, Cooley replied, “We know we need forwards. Particularly wingers, so look for us to potentially target the left wingers or right wingers quite heavily. We’ll also take a look at the available defenseman as well. ” Cooley was also asked if the team thought about its goaltending situation and neither he nor the team feels too concerned about the goaltending.

“Right now we feel that between Andrei Vasilevskiy, Steve Mason and recently acquired David Rittich, that we’re set at the moment. As for the future, we’re hoping Zach Fucale will shine and maybe see if we can get a couple more talented prospects or AHL goalies. We're more focused on the winger and defenseman position at the draft. I’ve never been a fan personally of drafting a goaltender, especially before the final round, but there are some good goaltenders in this year’s draft, so who knows. Bottom line, we’re looking forward to ensuring our team’s future and having fun at the draft,” commented Cooley.

As more teams and their representatives show up in Chicago for the 2017 Draft, the weather looks like it will cooperate throughout the entire draft and be a nice time for all teams in attendance. One question on the minds of many going into the draft though, who is going number one overall and number two overall between Hischier and Patrick?
