Canadiens Hire New GM

Montreal, QC --- The Canadiens have hired a new GM to run the show in Montreal. Mike Cooley was named GM of the team yesterday. GM Cooley spoke briefly to the media this morning.

"First of all, I want to thank Commissioner Cyr and the rest of the league for this opportunity to lead the Montreal Canadien franchise. I'm an avid hockey fan and usually have multiple games on the tv at the bar at home. NHL, AHL, International hockey...whatever game I can find a broadcast for.

I'm looking forward to getting started and will be busy the next few days looking at the team and preparing for free agency as well as the entry draft. This team has a solid group of players and just missed out on a playoff spot this past season. With a few tweaks in my first season with this team, I'd like to make the playoffs a reality for the team this season and for future seasons as well. It's not just about the lineup and the 'here and now'. It's also about the future and doing your homework. It's about selecting the right prospects at the draft and making the right moves to ensure your team's future."

While many Canadiens fans may be encouraged by Cooley's words at today's press conference, they may also be wondering what 'moves' he might make to ensure the future of the franchise.
