OIlers having a busy offseason

2013-06-09

GM Lozinski has been a busy man these past couple weeks, wheeling and dealing in hopes of bringing his team back on top.

" We had a shit year last year, with a team that was expected to make a run at the cup. I sat down early last season and decided that it would be worth it to take a season off, rid ourselves of older high paid players, and stock up. Now we have made some key acquisitions that should get us back in the cup hunt, and we are now also loaded up on prospects".

GM Lozinski also advised both his NHL and AHL coaches that they would not be returning behind the bench next season.

" We have 3 or 4 guys in the coaching free agency that we are targetting" explained Lozinski

So far , the oiler have managed to ship out :

Tim Thomas who has 2 more years at 6 million per

Patrik Elias who has 4 more years at 6.4 million per

David Rundblad, Chris Neil, Tim Erixon, John Audy Maur, Phillipe Cornet have also been sent on their way.

Joining the Oilers this season are:

Young former 7th overall pick Kyle Okoposo, Veterans Jeff Schultz, Nick Antropov, Eric Fehr, and young up and coming netminder Cory Schenider.

GM Lozinski also added to his prospect Cubpoard, adding

Keegan Lowe, selected 73 overall in 2011

Seth Griffith, selected 131 overall in 2012

But GM Lozinski is most pleased with the acqusituon of SEL League defender Oscar Klefbom, the 19th overall pick in 2011, and one of the top rated prospects on the planet.

" We no longer have a depth issue on this team. We have a TON of up and comers in players like Adam Larson, Ryan Johansen, Cory Schenider, Oscar Klefbom, Gustav Nyquist and Jeff Petry, just to name a few. But we als now have a solid core of veterand, lead by Evgeni Malkin. And most importantly, we now have the cap space to be able to keep everyone around, a luxury that most teams wont have next season. The future is very bright in Edmonton!"
