Hurricanes signed 4 big players during the off season

2020-09-15

GM Roussel was busy with his phone and pen in order to get some players to help immediately the rebuild for this season. Although it may not be for this season GM Roussel anticipates they will be a threat over the next couple of years with a lot of young guys making the team this year and more depth coming up along with some high draft choices coming up in the next draft. The Canes got what they wanted for the most part starting with a #1 goalie and decent back up.  As for the front line we got what we wanted and more as a bonus.  So here are a summary of these players signing.

Matt Duchesne: signed for $9.865 mil for average of 3y, We were really eying on him even before free agency hit as we know he can help and brings some leadership and playmaking abilities.

Sean Couturier: inked for $10.2mil for 3y We were not expecting him to sign with us but he had a contract he could not refuse.  Although even without dressing for a single game for the team he was dealt later in the summer to the rangers as an offer we couldn't refuse in order tto get great draft choice and putting hands on highly rated goalie Cayden Primeau that will likely be the futur goalie for this team.

Jake Allen: Signed for $5.724mil for 3y we are happy he joined this young team since the team did not have a #1 goalie he will be assuming this role for the 2020-2021 season.  Jake Allen tweeted ''I'm really happy to be joined by a GM that is also a prov of NB native and to be part of this great young teamand hope to make something special happen''

Jimmy howard: signed for $2.216 mil for 1y and will assume the back up for Jake this season.  Roussel says ''we really wanted a solid backup goalie to help Jake and feel he was the best available in the market for this job and very happy to welcome him aboard''

Although Roussel says we would of liked to have signed a D man overall very happy with what we got right now and will not shy down in improving the team if the situation prsents itself.  More to come on the projected starting roster after the draft is completed likely in October.
